Dr. Aldo Humberto Romero is the Eberly Family Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy at West Virginia University, where he leads a computational condensed-matter physics group. His work approaches materials science from first principles, using density functional theory (DFT), its time-dependent form (TDDFT) and many-body approximations such as GW and Bethe-Salpeter, applied to crystalline, amorphous and nanostructured systems. One of his signature lines is high-throughput materials design, in which his group builds tools based on genetic algorithms, minima hopping and metadynamics to obtain materials with targeted properties from scratch. He also serves as Director of Research Computing at the university. His honors include the Benedum Distinguished Scholar Award (2017) and recognition as Eberly College Outstanding Researcher (2022).
