Theoretical quantum chemistry (DFT)
Dr. Gloria Inés Cárdenas-Jirón is a full professor at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of the University of Santiago, Chile, where she directs the Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory. She earned her master's and doctorate in Science with a specialization in Chemistry at the University of Chile, and has been affiliated with USACH since 1998, holding management roles including the Vice-Deanship of Research and Graduate Studies. Her research applies quantum chemistry and density functional theory to the design of molecular materials and devices, especially porphyrins and phthalocyanines for dye-sensitized solar cells, molecular electronics, spintronics and CO₂ capture. In 2025 she was the only researcher from Chile invited to give a talk at the WATOC congress in Oslo.
